Business Series : Freelancing Part 2
Be inspired to be a freelancer
Long gone are the days of being held subservient to your bosses anymore. Former employees far and wide are now more than ever taking on the clarion call to pursue their own destinies in life.
They no longer want to be chained to their cubicles all day long working harder to make somebody else’s dreams come true. Instead, people now consider the option to be a freelancer.
When you take the plunge to be a freelancer, you choose a chance for freedom.
It means that you want to venture out on your own.
To be independent.
To be a master of your own destiny.
To be inspired to live life according to your own terms and rules.
Whatever you want to achieve, all you have to do is to be willing to learn and work hard till you achieve your dreams.
The opportunity to be a freelancer opens up your eyes to a whole different world.
We are now living in the modern day era. The day of the freelancer.
The day of the internet worker at home fulfilling orders for Asia from another part of the world. By leveraging the internet, you can now become self-employed and no longer be restricted to your local services.
You can take full advantage of the services offered by other freelancers. Why not? Not only do you get to be a freelancer, you get to support the ambitions of your new found brethren.
It makes perfect sense. As a freelancer starting out, you are going to need things like graphic design for your consulting business, or perhaps website design or accounting services.
You can find other freelancers specialising in those fields and work out an agreement to patronise each other’s services.
Being a freelancer allows you the creativity to carve out your own path. You will no longer be stuck in your mundane nine to five routine as with your former employers.
Now as a freelancer you get the chance to be your own boss. You decide how much you can make by how much effort and dedication you are willing to put in. Nobody else will be dictating terms to you or deciding your own destiny.
You have now firmly decided to be a freelancer, inspired to express your skill to the entire world.
Say the word “freelancer” and what comes to mind? For most people, the image that surfaces is most likely that of someone, comfortably clad in pajamas or lounge wear, sitting at home in front of a laptop with a steaming cup of freshly brewed coffee or tea conveniently at hand.
It’s a relaxing picture, and, depending on your personality, may very well be the way you choose to work if you decide to take the freelancing plunge.
However, the real truth is that like most things in life, you will get out what you put in. You have to work hard so you can play hard. If you commit to being a freelancer, and dedicate yourself to your craft, there is no reason why you can’t achieve all your dreams and live exactly how you want to -the sky is truly the limit.
To be or not to be a freelancer. Is it really for you?
In the current world economic climate, more and more folks are taking it upon themselves to become self-employed. It no longer costs a fortune to become self-employed. You don’t need too much up-front start-up costs or capital investment, you can just choose to be a specialist freelancer and trade your skills and expertise for great income. However, in order to prosper as a freelancer and create a sustainable income for yourself and family, you need to make sure the lifestyle is an ideal fit for you and your situation.
Research your field
First and foremost, determine if it is possible to succeed in your field or specialty as self-employed. Sophisticated means of communication we have now and changing workplaces certainly encourage self-employment but some professions still require a more stable presence in business and / or have more benefits if performed with for a permanent employer.
In addition, certain types of contracts, such as translation, are often offered in outsourcing, since they usually require little in-house training and can be done quickly by freelancers. Also, some trades involve little equipment or personal investment, making the transition to self-employment is a rather simple process. .By contrast, other sectors require expensive equipment acquisition, and huge capital investment just to get off the ground.
Can you work alone or self-directed?
To work as a freelancer and meet your project deadlines, you need to be focused and be self-directed. You need to work under pressure of meeting your timelines so your clients can be happy.
If you choose freelance contracts and perform your home, which can be very beneficial because you will be able to submit a portion of your fixed costs as tax deductible expenses, make sure you do not have a tendency to feel depressed when you spend long hours alone.
However, there are several ways to prevent loneliness or boredom. For example, take advantage of all the options available to you in your neighbourhood or elsewhere to work remotely. There are also shared work spaces for self-employed people.
It’s also a good idea to maintain close ties to all your former colleagues and coworkers. Let them know that you are now independent and working for yourself.
Maintain a strong social circle for good connections. As a freelancer, you are responsible to generate your own interest and to execute your own marketing initiatives. The number one rule in marketing is word of mouth. Let all your social network know that you are now a freelancer ready to handle duties on their behalf.
Do you prefer to be guided by others or be your own leader?
Even if your boss irritates you sometimes you prefer still mostly remain a team player and operate in an environment run by people that inspire you? ,
Do you see yourself working late hours to meet the deadline on a project? Are you able to find the energy to work late on a weekend to make your client in Tokyo happy at the stock market’s opening bell? When you are a freelancer, clients are depending on you to perform, so you need to take the attributes of a leader ready to deliver, doing whatever it takes.
Self-employment has its challenges but offers a multitude of benefits, such as the variety of tasks and the freedom to choose your own clients. Work with clients that inspire you to reach even greater heights. Being a freelancer is a great journey of experience that you are going to love.
